You’ve made it to Rincón, Puerto Rico and the sun is dipping near the horizon. You’re in for a treat! Rincón has some of the best sunsets on the island of Puerto Rico! Because Rincón is west facing the sun slips below the horizon and into the Atlantic Ocean right in front of your eyes!
Keep reading to find out the best places to watch the sunset in Rincón, Puerto Rico as well as the best bars in Rincón to sip on a rum punch (or medalla) while you watch the sun slide across the sky! I’ve watched my fair share of sunsets in Rincón over the years and you’re sure to love them too.

Villa Cofresí
Come for the piratas, stay for the sunset! Villa Cofresí’s coconut drinks (pirata) are famous and strong! They are made with rum, coconut milk and cinnamon.
Hang out along the rail while you listen to the waves hit the deck and sip on your giant coconut rum drink.
Ola Sunset Cafe
The views are incredible as are the freshly made mojitos! Ola Sunset Cafe is next to the Rincón lighthouse and overlooking the Domes beach.
You can watch surfers get their last waves while watching the sunset on top of the cliff. Ola Sunset Cafe makes all their drinks fresh and I highly recommend the parcha (passionfruit) mojito!

Steps Beach
At sunset, steps beach is extremely tranquil and peaceful. You may want to bring a blanket with you to sit on or take a nice little beach walk while you look for beach glass on the shore.
This is one of my favorite places to watch the sunset in Rincón and also one of my favorite beaches during the day.
Pro Tip: the snorkeling at steps beach is amazing as it is located on a marine preserve!

Calypso
My absolute favorite happy hour bar in Rincon, El Bohio, has sadly closed its doors permanently!! BUT right next door you will find Caddy’s Calypso!
Located at Maria’s beach, Calypso is a happy hour bar with live music and tropical island drinks. You can choose to sit around their bar, take a seat at a table or watch the sunset from their top deck.
Calypso also serves food!
El Nuevo Encuentro
AKA Mountain Bar. Our friends who live down in Rincón for the winter just introduced us to El Nuevo Encuentro/Mountain Bar and it’s definitely worth noting.
As you drive up into the mountains on a narrow road with no guard rails you’ll wonder where the heck you are going but it’s worth the view and cheap drinks once you get there. We usually order classic rum and coke’s or medallas.
PS: there’s a juke box and pool table here too!
Tamboo
You may not see the sun slip under the horizon at Tamboo in the winter months but you can still watch the pretty sunset skies from the top deck of Tamboo. They also have my favorite piña colada in Rincón and a great surtido (fried Puerto Rican appetizer sampler) to share with friends!
Tamboo is also on one of my favorite beaches in Rincón, Sandy Beach. You’ll definitely want to make it a point to visit both Sandy Beach and Tamboo.
Harbor
Harbor is located outside in a small complex located in the Balneario parking lot. The big circular bar serves up a great happy hour rum punch as well as front row seats to an amazing sunset. You can hang out around the bar or take a seat at one of their many tables on the lawn next to the water.
Harbor also serves food! Order surtido (Puerto Rican sampler plate) to share or order a full meal.
On Board the Katarina Catamaran
The Katarina has daily sailings at sunset. Cruise around the shores of Rincón aboard a 32 foot catamaran which provides all you can drink rum punch and beer as well as small snack appetizers. If you’re lucky you’ll spot whales between January and March!
We’ve done a sailing with the Katarina and its so much fun – you will not regret booking this sunset sail.
The Beach House
The Beach House was once one of the best places to watch the sunset in Rincón and listen to live music for vacationers. In January 2023 the public found the Beach House to be wrongfully disposing of waste water down the hill in front of its property. Many locals and seasonal locals do not go here anymore because of this.
