The Best Montauk Hotels on the Beach

Montauk has no shortage of beachfront hotels. In fact, many of the best places to stay are right on the beach in town, within walking distance of restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and everything you’ll want during a Montauk getaway. Montauk actually has one of the highest concentrations of hotels on Long Island — which is great, but also overwhelming when it comes time to book.

That’s where I come in.

Gurney’s is a 158 room, five star hotel located on a pristine stretch of beach (with private beach access) in Montauk, NY. Just a ten minute drive outside of downtown Montauk, on the Old Montauk Highway, Gurney’s is the biggest resort in Montauk.

The resort includes a fully renovated (2022) full service seawater spa, multiple restaurants (including Gigi’s), a beach club, cocktail lounge, fire pits, an indoor pool and so much more. 2. Marram Montauk

Marram Montauk (formerly Atlantic Terrace Hotel) was fully renovated and updated in 2020 with a barefoot luxury vibe. Marram is one of my favorite and most booked oceanfront hotels in Montauk. The 96 room oceanfront hotel is located right on the beach so guests can expect to enjoy set up umbrellas and chairs out front each morning.

Alternatively, the Marram pool up on the deck has sweeping views of the beach and ocean in both directions. Mostrador Marram restaurant is on site and open for breakfast, lunch and dinner in season. Their pastries are to die for! (definitely try a Medialuna!)

4. Breakers Montauk

Breakers Montauk, a three star motel, is the most affordable option on my beachfront Montauk hotels list. Located on Old Montauk Highway, nestled between numerous condominiums, Breakers offers a unique old Montauk vibe.

Their 25 rooms are set up in numerous cottages that dot the sprawling lawn of the property. At the center is a pool, sun deck, bar and cafe. There is direct beach access across the street and down a small path that cuts through the sand dunes.

5. Hartman’s Briney Breezes Beach Resort

If you’re looking for a no-frills, classic Montauk beachfront stay, Hartman’s Briney Breezes Beach Resort is a solid option — especially for travelers who care more about location and beach access than luxury amenities.

Located directly on the ocean along Old Montauk Highway, this property offers immediate beach access and beautiful water views, while still being just a short drive to town, restaurants, and Montauk’s main attractions.

Hartman’s is best suited for travelers who want a laid-back, old-school Montauk vibe and don’t need extras like spas or on-site dining. If waking up steps from the sand is your top priority — and you’re okay trading luxury for value — this is a great option to consider. Plus, I always get so many instagram DM’s saying how much people love staying at this property!

6. The Royal Atlantic Hotel

If you want to stay right on the beach in the heart of Montauk, The Royal Atlantic Hotel is one of the best-located beachfront properties in town. Situated directly on the ocean and just steps from Montauk’s restaurants, shops, and bars, this hotel is ideal if you want to park your car and walk everywhere. (or great if you are visiting without a car!)

The Royal Atlantic offers direct beach access, an outdoor pool overlooking the ocean, and apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes — making it a popular choice for couples, groups of friends, and longer stays. The vibe here is relaxed and social, especially in the summer, with many guests spending their days between the beach and pool.

While this isn’t a luxury resort, the unbeatable location and convenience make The Royal Atlantic a favorite for travelers who want a true beachfront stay.
