Where to Get the Best Breakfast in Montauk, NY
Truth be told there are so many restaurants in Montauk in the summer but not all that many true breakfast places. As a Montauk local, I have personally eaten at all of the restaurants below many times and can confidently say they are great for breakfast. Just depends on what you’re looking for!
This guide covers the best breakfast in Montauk, including sit-down restaurants, classic diners, bagel shops, and easy grab-and-go spots. Keep reading to find the best breakfast spots in Montauk, whether you want a full sit-down meal, something quick before the beach, or a local favorite you won’t regret waiting in line for.
Breakfast Spots in Montauk
1. Bird on the Roof
Bird on the Roof is my favorite place to get breakfast in Montauk. The restaurant was recently taken over by a young Montauk local and completely reimagined and renovated! (although we loved the old one too!)
Their whole menu is amazing but I continually order the pancakes or the soft scramble toast which comes with avocado and burrata – need I say more! Definitely make sure to come here because it’s the best breakfast in Montauk.
The inside is super cozy and they have a small bar you can sit at too. They also have outside seating in the front which is small and a larger seating area in the back. This would be a great spot for brunch on the weekend in Montauk.
Location: 47 S Elmwood Ave
Pro Tip: Bird on the Roof also serves an amazing dinner and has a fun little bar scene with yummy cocktails.

2. John’s Pancake House
Since I was a kid there was always the argument which was better John’s Pancake House or Anthonys? For me, I’d pick John’s.
It is your classic American diner and still has that old Montauk feel to it. The decor is all over the place, they squeeze as many tables in as they can, and there is a great breakfast bar to sit at (Brent and I always try to get the spot at the counter in the corner!)
This is a great breakfast place in montauk to come with kids because they have all of the basics and favorite breakfast dishes.
Location: 721 Montauk Hwy
Pro Tip: John’s Pancake House is cash only. There is an ATM there or Chase Bank down the street.
3. Anthony’s Pancake House
Anthony’s was sold and completely renovated just a few years ago and is honestly completely different than the Anthony’s from when I was a kid. The restaurant is very open, bright and has nautical design touches to it.
This is a great spot for brunch in Montauk with friends on the weekend. They have a large U shaped bar in the center you can sit at as well! (can you tell I like sitting at bars yet? haha)
Location: 710 Montauk Hwy
4. Joni’s
Joni’s is one of my go to places to eat breakfast AND lunch!
Their build your own breakfast wraps are my favorite thing to get for breakfast but they also have açai bowls, waffles and lots of great smoothie options. Joni’s is a “take out” restaurant but she has loads of picnic benches and tables out front for you to enjoy your meal there.
There are always people waiting to order at Joni’s so be aware of this or order ahead online.
Location: 28 S Etna Ave
5. Mostrador Marram
This is a bit of sneaky breakfast spot in Montauk and most people wouldn’t know about it unless they were staying at the beachfront hotel, Marram Montauk. Mostrador is a small (but insanely delicious) cafe at the Marram hotel.
Their team is mostly from Uruguay and so lovely! They have pastry chefs that whip out an insane amount of pastries (and cookies) every day and they are all to die for. You can not miss trying any of their baked goods.
I love coming here after I’ve hiked Shadmoor to grab an iced coffee and pastry and sit on the bench to watch the ocean and surfers at Terrace below.
Location: 21 Oceanview Terrace
Pro Tip: do yourself a favor and try a medialuna. It’s like a croissant but sweeter and so much better.

6. Happy Bowls
If an açai bowl is what you are after you have to come to Happy Bowls for breakfast. They have a great ratio of açai to granola and you can add whatever toppings to your bowl like fruit, coconut flakes, almonds, honey – honestly whatever you’d like!
An acai bowl is also an incredibly refreshing snack after a day at the beach too!
Location: 805 Montauk Hwy
Pro Tip: Happy Bowls has the best poke bowl in Montauk! It consists of spicy tuna over rice with avocado, scallions and sesame seeds on top. So simple which makes it simply the best in my opinion.

7. Naturally Good
Naturally Good is both a small cafe and organic market. The market part is insanely expensive but their cafe is a great healthy option for breakfast or lunch!
They have loads of healthier food options like vegan sausage, vegan cheese and gluten free wraps and pastries. But don’t let that deter you if you’re not vegan because they have non vegan options too.
My favorite smoothies in Montauk are from Naturally Good – specifically the funky monkey which is banana and peanut butter.
Location: 779 Montauk Hwy
Pro Tip: I also love coming here for lunch to grab a quick salad from the pre made fridge!
8. Goldberg’s Bagels
I can’t write about breakfast in Montauk without mentioning bagels!!! If you are not from NY you MUST get a fresh NY bagel from Godlbergs Bagels.
I just love bagels but the line in the summer is ridiculously long most days so be prepared to wait… and wait. Goldbergs is also a full service deli so you can get whatever deli sandwich you’d like form here too.
Location: 28 S Etna Ave & 57 Kirk Ave
Pro Tip: Try a Flagel! It’s a flattened out bagel. So less doughy – but more surface area. They’re great toasted with cream cheese!
9. Montauk Bake Shoppe
If a full breakfast is not in the cards for you, Montauk does have a Bakery – the Montauk Bake Shoppe. (Although they do have egg sandwiches and such also available!)
I love their iced coffee here and really anything from inside the case! People really love their jelly croissants and donuts but I am more of a plain croissant or scone person.
Location: 29 The Plaza
Pro Tip: don’t come to the Bake Shoppe and not get a fish cookie. It’s not what is sounds like. It’s a cookie shaped like a fish with sprinkles covering it. You and your kids will love it.
10. Bambi’s Cafe
Bambi’s opened in 2023 and is a new trendy health forward cafe. They have lots of different smoothies and bowls with different bases like açai, banana and yogurt. But my favorite thing on their menu is the Turkish Eggs – you seriously have to try this dish! They also have healthy sweet treats like vegan donuts!
Location: 33 Carl Fisher Plaza
BONUS: Ditch Witch Food Truck
The Ditch Witch is a Montauk favorite for beach day food at Ditch Plains Beach – but did you know they also have breakfast? Located in the second parking lot of Ditch Plains, the Ditch Witch has different bagels, muffins, croissants and egg wraps available as well as coffee!
Come grab breakfast and take a walk on the beach – what a way to start your morning!
Location: Ditch Plains Beach, 2nd Parking Lot
